NEW HOSPITAL PLAYROOM

June 2023.

To provide a playful learning environment that nurtures and supports hospitalised children receiving medical treatment, a playroom has been designed at Hester Malan Hospital, in Douglas. Funded by Boikanyo Solar, this caring space provides a safe and engaging environment for children.

Benefiting children between the ages of 0-6 years, the support includes educational learning materials, age-appropriate toys, plastic tables and chairs, storage units, bookshelves, curtains, and other resources to create a welcoming and stimulating environment for the children.

“We are thrilled to support the hospital playroom initiative because we believe children possess a natural sense of wonder and a carefree attitude that should be nurtured. By incorporating these elements into their hospital experience, our objective is to encourage children’s innovative thinking and ensure that they do not miss out on educational opportunities while receiving medical care,” said Stephaline Fanie, Boikanyo Solar’s Community Liaison Officer.

The playroom will offer a variety of activities and resources to help children engage positively and develop essential skills during their hospital stay, whilst therapeutic play activities are specifically designed to help young patients cope and achieve healthcare goals. Through various development activities and access to educational toys, it is hoped that children will experience a positive medical care journey, mitigating anxiety and stress associated with hospitalisation.
