PROMOTING HEALTH AND HYGIENE

October 2024.

Hundreds of young learners in communities across Siyancuma Local Municipality are being supported by the newly launched Personal Hygiene Initiative, aimed at enhancing health and hygiene standards. Funded by Boikanyo Solar, this programme has reached 600 Grade 4 learners across six primary schools, equipping them with essential hygiene tools and education to highlight the importance of cleanliness.

“Good hygiene enables children to lead healthier lives, and I am proud to have been part of bringing this initiative to life for the benefit of the children of my community,” said Charlein Pienaar, Community Operations Intern at Boikanyo Solar.

Through the programme, each of the learners received hygiene packs containing the necessary toiletries needed to take care of their personal hygiene and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, particularly in school settings.

Designed to go beyond hygiene, the initiative fosters better health, confidence, and self-esteem, and reduces absenteeism linked to the lack of hygiene products. By instilling these important habits in children at a young age, the initiative aims to make a lasting difference in their lives.

Mr. Steenkamp, Principal of Vaallus Primary School, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful for this support. As you can see for yourself, these packets are very much needed.”

Schools benefiting from this programme included: Douglas Primary, Bongani Primary, Ikageng Intermediate, Vaal-Oranje Primary, Vaallus Primary, and Bucklands Primary.
