SCHOLARSHIP FUND OFFERS STUDYING OPPORTUNITIES

October 2021.

With dreams of changing their communities through education, three students from within the Siyancuma Local Municipal area, are studying towards various Bachelor’s in Education Degrees, with the help of the Boikanyo Solar’s Scholarship Fund.

“One of my big dreams is to bring change to the community where I grew up, as I’m one of the few who have had a chance to study further. This is why I want to motivate others to do well at school, so that they can also get such opportunities,” said Meakaila Katz, from Briepaal, who is studying towards a 4 year B Ed Intermediate Phase degree.
The Scholarship Fund provides opportunities to Matriculants, within beneficiary communities, wishing to study at tertiary institutions, giving local youth, who would not have had access to funding, or the opportunity to further their education, a chance to follow their dreams.

This Scholarship Fund exclusively targets learners from communities in this specific municipal area, with its first beneficiaries having already commenced their studies. Both Tamara Morolong (B Ed Senior and FET Phase), and Lizaan Andreas (B Ed Intermediate Phase), are studying at the University of the Free State; and the third beneficiary Meakaila Katz (B Ed Intermediate Phase) is at the Sol Plaatjie University, in Kimberley.

Unlike most other programmes, students don’t need to contend against learners from other communities, making it a fantastic opportunity to fulfil a dream of studying after school.

The solar project’s Socio-Economic Development Programme prioritises youth and education, and views access to scholarships for community youth as a chance for young people to grasp a chance to fulfil their academic aspirations.
In addition to tuition funding, the beneficiaries receive equipment such as laptops, a stipend for living expenses, as well as mentoring and psycho-social support.

“It’s important to provide students with the additional support, beyond their studies, to help develop and support their full potential as they learn to navigate different environments. Our scholarships additionally aim to give hope to students in our beneficiary communities,” concluded Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager for Boikanyo Solar.
